As the mother of a very active toddler, I understand the importance of having a 'go-to' list for indoor play both in and outside of your home. We live in the Northwest and winters here tend to be extremely cold and wet. Over the last few years we have lived through ice storms. I didn't even know what that felt like until everything had a one inch layer of ice over it. For this very reason, I have prepared indoor play ideas for outside of the home as well as inside of the home too. You know, just in case you are stuck. If you have any ideas to add to this list please share them in the comments below for other parents, including me, to see. Let's adopt the adventure of turning grey skies into blue ones within the walls of our home this winter. Parenthood, for all of us, is going to be a little bit easier this season with this great resource!
Thank you for being here and contributing to the conversation!
OUTSIDE OF THE HOME INDOOR ACTIVITIES:
Go swimming at an indoor pool. Our towns has one for family use at the local gym.
Play at a McDonalds play place.
Search 'Indoor Playgrounds for Kids' in your area on www.google.com You might be surprised at what pops up!
Go to the nearest indoor trampoline park.
Explore an Ikea or Costco store. When I say explore, this doesn't mean you are going to shop, you are going to point out shapes and objects like the giant warehouse ceiling fans, etc. The goal is provide some stimulus for their developing brains outside of the home.
Attend youth events at your local library. Give them a call to find out what events they host for littles and what the schedule looks like.
INSIDE of THE HOME INDOOR ACTIVITIES:
Plan an indoor play date for your child by watching one of your friends, neighbors or family members children.
Build a fort for endless play. Story time, building blocks, make a tunnel for cars all underneath of your new play place. Use chairs, tables and blankets to create the best fort!
Use objects to create 'stepping stones' and show your child to just walk on the stones. Don't step off! You will be surprised that this simple activity can turn into hours of fun.
Have an indoor picnic on top of a blanket on the floor. Prep for the picnic (fruit, sandwiches, crackers) and then enjoy it together.
Make a Crock-Pot soup recipe together. I have found that making soup with little ones is the best! It's not hot to put together and the ingredients don't have to be perfect to make the most delicious meal. Your little might even munch on a carrot while prepping this meal.
Play dress up (with daddy or mommy's clothes).
Have a dance party to burn energy and get a good work out in.
Give your dog a bath. This can feel like a chore but can be so much fun with your toddler around to help. A great activity to change things up. We use all non-toxic soaps in our house so I let our son in on all of the fun! Suds and all!
As you send me messages and comments with additional indoor play ideas
