spending more on gear and not having a time schedule is worth it and Key
Brently, my husband, made a rule years ago that we follow as one unit! If at any point, starting from when we are getting ready to leave home to unpacking at the end of a trip, if there is stress or arguing we have completely defeated the purpose of the family adventure! So if stressful times come up we analyse what is causing the stress and we start addressing these with a plan. One rule we made is we never set a time that we have to be somewhere. That applies so much pressure when it's really not needed if you clear your travel days. We always clear our travel days now ( no work with nowhere to be ) because we realized that this travel time is spent on vacation too. We should enjoy the moments and make them as blissful as possible! If we are camping in new places we always stop whenever we want too to check things out and explore! Not having a schedule in place or the only thing on the itinerary being to enjoy the travel day allows us to do just that! Everyone stays in a stress free mood and this has been a game changer to our joyful family camping adventures!
The next thing that we noticed causing stress over the years was issues with gear that would break or just wasn't good enough/user friendly/comfortable to use. We had to make a money mindset shift when it came to purchasing camp gear, period.
Overtime my husband and I switched from wanting to save money with family adventure gear to investing in better quality pieces. We spend more initially but the product always last longer and performs better resulting in the best camping experience! We actually gift each other something nice to use for adventuring each year on our wedding anniversary then we get to use the gifts together as a family! Here are some examples of the quality gear we chose to invest in:
When camping, especially with kids, the goal is to limit your worries. Let's face it, mom and dad want to have a good time relaxing too! Investing in a cooler that is built to last for years to come and holds ice for over a week in it's most frozen form on the hottest days is worth the investment! We have loved our YETI cooler! In fact we have two of them that we take camping! A large one that stays in the bed of the pickup or at base camp and a small one that we pack and use for daytime adventures! The small one is actually nice to use around home too! If we head to a friends barbeque, the beach or the zoo we load this one up to keep everything ice cold!
